The Danish Package: Lactation and Doula Care
(A comprehensive initial lactation visit and two 4-hour postpartum visits, each including a lactation follow-up/weight check & doula visit with a doula/IBCLC)
In Denmark, a nurse comes to your home when your baby is one week old to help with feeding and general postpartum care, and continues to visit for the first year. That is what a family-supportive culture looks like, and we hope the US will catch up some day. In the meantime, and instead of moving to Denmark, you can live in beautiful Portland and call Bridgetown Baby.
This package begins with an initial lactation consultation with a Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC), usually about 2 hours in length (longer with twins). It includes a thorough health history of the nursing parent and the baby, observation and assessment of how your baby feeds, a weight check for baby, and a gentle examination of you and baby. At the end of the initial consultation, your IBCLC creates a written care plan that works for you and your family.
In the following weeks, you will enjoy two postpartum Support visits from one of our doulas who is also an IBCLC. In addition to everything our doulas do to make postpartum life easier for your family, these 4 hour visits will include a lactation follow-up appointment. You’ll have a chance to evaluate and adjust your lactation care plan, including a weight check and any other professional support you need to meet your feeding goals and help you grow into your new life.
*More hours can be added as needed.
Travel Fee May Apply:
If your home is 15 or more miles from Portland city center, a $20 travel fee applies per visit.
