Round-up: Resources for Antiracist Parenting
As an agency, Bridgetown Baby is deeply committed both to confronting bias within ourselves and dismantling the systemic racism that literally and figuratively stifles the potential of our BIPOC* community members. The work starts with us; it continues with our children - and we are their most important teachers.
Each month, we share resources for talking with kids about bias, celebrating differences, and helping young kids see themselves and others represented in literature.
An enthusiastic mer-boy is so happy that he just wants to give all of his friends a squish - only it turns out that some of his friends don’t feel comfortable with that. How the friends come to an awareness of their different preferences and the importance of asking for consent is a clear and age-appropriate way to reinforce children’s rights to bodily autonomy from a young age.
With bright and engaging illustrations, Love Makes a Family creates a literary space to celebrate the love that bonds families in their many forms. A great read for Pride month - or any month of the year!
Daddy Speaks Love, with its gentle prose and airy watercolor illustrations, celebrates a range of dads and fathering experiences. Parents of all stripes will find reflections of themselves…
What we read with our kids matters - words and images shape our children’s sense of who they can be and what they can do in the world. Women’s accomplishments fill the pages of Think Big, Little One…
The ABCs of Black History is as charming as it is informative, as sobering as it is soaring with hope. With succinct stories told rhythmically, this is a book that educates, celebrates, and reverberates in this Black History month and all year round.
