2024 Mamas Day Campaign: Growing the Circle of Care for Postpartum Families

At Bridgetown Baby, we believe we are an interconnected, powerful force for good in the world. Each Mother’s Day, we bring our community together to support an effort that is making life better for families.

This year we are excited to once again partner with Portland New Family Fund.

Last year, you gave generously to fund Portland New Family Fund’s inaugural year. Your gifts allowed the Bridgetown Baby team to provide postpartum care to 4 low-income families living across the Portland metro area.

This year, in addition to providing hands-on care for even more families in need, we are deepening our relationship with PNFF to bolster their advocacy to:

  • Improve outcomes for low-income families by educating hospital staff on the obstacles these families face

  • Advocate with insurance companies for coverage of doula and lactation care

  • Weave a web of support for low-income parents through partnerships with related nonprofits

  • Seek grant funding for research that will support policy change at the local, state and federal levels

  • Engage legislators to change laws that inhibit healthy starts for families and to promote bills that support postpartum care

Why we believe in this work

For any family, welcoming a new baby brings a host of potential stressors, particularly in the United States where we lack universal parental leave, affordable daycare and preschool, and where maternal health outcomes are among the worst in the world’s wealthy countries.

The families served by Portland New Family Fund face extra challenges: poverty-induced trauma, addiction history, financial limitations and more.

How your donation supports new families

Each of us at Bridgetown Baby believes that all families deserve the benefits that come from comprehensive doula and feeding support:

  • decreased preterm labor and low birth weight

  • 50% decrease in cesarean births

  • increased parent satisfaction after birth

  • decreased risk of postpartum anxiety and depression

  • increased parent/baby bonding

  • increased initiation and longer duration of breast/chest feeding

Together, we can grow the circle of postpartum care, making a difference for families in our community and supporting advocacy for systemic changes that will change the story for thousands of families in the future. Please give today to support Portland New Family Fund’s important work.

With love,

Your Bridgetown Baby Team
