Melissa Curry

IBCLC, Certified Professional Midwife | she/her

“Our baby had lost a little too much weight from birth and as first time parents it was stressful to hear! Melissa came over the SAME day and helped create a plan. She truly made breastfeeding possible for our family and went above and beyond to help us”

— Alexandria S., first time mom

Melissa grew up in a small, rural town in the Midwest, enmeshed in a community that supported one another in the forms of dropping off meals, looking after one another’s children, and coming together to make big jobs easier. After college, she made the move to Oregon and set about building a new community and exploring all Oregon has to offer.

One of her biggest discoveries in Oregon was the thriving homebirth midwife community, a profession that was illegal and underground in her home state. Her obsession with all things pregnancy, birth, and postpartum was swift and complete. She graduated from Birthingway College of Midwifery in 2008 with a BS in Midwifery and enjoyed being the primary midwife in a thriving home birth practice until the birth of her daughter in 2011. It was at that point, and again after the birth of her son in 2014, that she realized how crucial postpartum and lactation support is in helping ease the transitions new families face.

Melissa is passionate about providing individualized support for new families in her roles as a board-certified Lactation Consultant. She loves providing the type of support she craved after the births of her own children. Melissa knows how important it is to hold space for parents to experience all the emotions that come with parenting and be a witness to their triumphs and challenges, no matter how big or small. Melissa is a warm, intuitive, and compassionate caregiver who knows that extra support can have a profound ripple effect in each client's immediate and long-term parenting journey. Her goal is to lessen the invisible load that parents carry and help clients feel well supported, well informed, well fed, and well rested.

In her free time, Melissa enjoys exploring new places with her family, traveling, reading, and growing food and flowers. She lives in Portland, Oregon with her husband Eric, their two kids and French Bulldog Pearl.
