Calina Selmanson

Certified Postpartum Doula | she/her

“Calina has this way about her that's extremely calming and kind. To be able to literally hand your baby into someone else's arms, and know they'll be safe, is rare. Not only did we feel safe with Calina and our baby boy, she was also able to magically calm him down…”

— Hannah, parent of one

Calina’s doula path began early in life, when she supported a dear friend through pregnancy, labor and the postpartum period. These experiences were pivotal in shaping her identity and philosophy as a doula. Through this early work, she realized the value of continuity-of-care throughout the entire childbearing year. Her passion to serve birthing parents and their families was further fueled by training as a midwife, certifying as a postpartum doula, and growing as a mother, herself. It is Calina’s goal to be an advocate for each family and to help instill confidence and calm in the confusion and chaos of parenting.

Calina truly empathizes with families recovering from tough pregnancies, loss, birth trauma and disappointing births. When her plans for unmedicated water birth ended instead with an urgent cesarean for each of her children, she experienced first-hand the demanding physical and emotional recovery that accompanies cesarean birth. After processing the trauma and disappointment, she has come to believe that surgical birth is a significant rite of passage to becoming a mother that can be honored and even celebrated.

Serving hundreds of new and growing families as a postpartum doula since 2005, Calina has added in complementary modalities of support over the years, including infant massage, reiki, nutrition, aromatherapy, placenta encapsulation, and herbal medicine. After surviving several challenging years of sleep issues with her own children, Calina is passionate about helping exhausted families find the tools to teach their babies how to sleep! She is pleased to offer sleep support to parents, with overlapping doula care during the “witching hours.”

When Calina is not soothing fussy babies and nurturing new families, she can be found in her kitchen preparing healthy comfort food, organizing cupboards and closets, and wildcrafting herbal adventures. She loves spending time in her backyard gardening, hula hooping or building fairy houses with her kids.
