Resources for Raising Conscious Kids: December Edition

This is work we all can do. It starts with us; it continues with our children - and we are their most important teachers. Each month, we'll be sharing resources for talking with kids about bias, celebrating diversity, and actions our families can take to create a world we all can live in.

Hanukkah brings to December another holiday to celebrate with good food and time together with friends and family.

For families who celebrate Hanukkah, Erik Kimmel’s Hanukkah Bear will contain familiar elements (latkes, dreidels, and the lighting of the menorah) in a sweetly humorous retelling of a classic Hanukkah tale: Bubba Brayna may not see well, but she’s said to still make the best latkes in town - and the neighborhood bear she mistakes for her rabbi couldn’t agree more after their feast and Hanukkah celebration together.

For families less familiar with Hanukkah, this sweet, relatable story will both educate about the history and customs of Hanukkah, and highlight a practice of generosity shared across religious traditions.
