In the wake of the May 2020 murder of George Floyd and the subsequent uprisings around the world, many of us at Bridgetown Baby felt called to action. While our work as an agency has always included a social justice focus, we realized that, in order to address the systemic legacy of violence towards BIPOC* folx upon which the United States was built, we need to go deep and we need to get personal in ways we haven’t before.

In July, we launched our Racial Justice Study Group, a monthly gathering to discuss readings, podcasts, and videos related to understanding White Supremacy both in our systems and in ourselves.

We’re also taking action on the political front - choosing an action each month that moves our country toward real justice for Black Americans.

As doulas and lactation consultants, we are inherent caretakers; we are committed to caring for and tending to the freedom, rights and safety of all families. We believe that no family is free until families of color are able to birth, parent, live and thrive without the weight of White Supremacy constricting their ability to breathe. We expect this work to be painful at times, to challenge us, and ultimately to change us. We know that it is worth it - and we invite you to join us in reading, listening and taking action.
