Amy Furnish
Certified Postpartum Doula
“Amy did a beautiful job caring for our baby overnight so we could get some much needed rest. She also took care of me with nourishing snacks, lactation support, and loving kindness during a very vulnerable period. She's made a lasting impression on all of us.”
— J.S., parent of 1
As a devoted eldest sister to 5 siblings, a professional nanny specializing in infant care, a direct support professional for children with special needs, a social worker, and now as a postpartum doula, Amy’s professional and personal endeavors have always been driven by an unwavering commitment to supporting thriving children and empowered families.
Amy views the postpartum period as a time of profound transformation. She is honored to witness and support families throughout the 4th trimester with non-judgmental, compassionate care. Amy integrates her social work education with her deep understandings of maternal health, infant development, and community resources to provide evidence-based information, emotional support, and referrals to local resources.
At the core of Amy’s approach is the principle of nourishment. This may come in the form of preparing a nutrient dense meal or a warming herbal tea, a nurturing conversation, or caring for baby while parents rest or engage in a self care practice. Amy’s priority is to create a space where recovery and bonding can flourish. Amy hopes to leave the families she works with feeling confident, empowered, and connected with their babies and to their own intuitive wisdom.
Amy has felt called to the world of birthwork since she was a teenager and was further inspired by her time traveling throughout Mexico and Central America and learning about the birth and postpartum traditions from local communities. She speaks Spanish and is very excited to work with Spanish speaking families! She is also currently pursuing her certification as a Lactation Counselor.
When she’s not supporting families or traveling, Amy enjoys and continuing education around postpartum nutrition and herbalism, cooking for her communal living home, gardening, photography, and picnics in the park!
