Resources for Raising Conscious Kids: August 2023 Edition

As an agency, Bridgetown Baby is deeply committed to confronting bias within ourselves, building our skills, and creating an inclusive model of care that authentically serves our clients and contributes to culture change. This is work we all can do. It starts with us; it continues with our children - and we are their most important teachers. Each month, we'll be sharing resources for talking with kids about bias, celebrating diversity, and actions our families can take to create a world we all can live in.

The feeding relationship is one of the most salient aspects of the early parenting experience - it can be tender and trying, frustrating and formative. Taking perspective on that journey can be healing for us as parents - and sharing some of that perspective with our littles can give them a window in to their own story as well.

Filled With Love: A Book About How Babies Eat offers an inclusive view of feeding from infancy on, including how human milk is made, breast/chest feeding, special feeding tools, alternatives to human milk, tandem feeding, nursing older children and on through the introduction of solid foods. The colorful illustrations, full of movement and soothing colors, depict and celebrate families of all identities and structures - and offer toddlers and preschoolers the opportunity to seek and find objects both familiar and new.

Earning a glowing review from one of Portland’s own local feeding experts, Dr. Bobak Ghaheri, this book offers a sweet reminder that feeding, no matter the form, is an act of love.
